KNUTTON CROSS HEATH AREA OF MAJOR INTERVENTION (AMI)

Aspire Housing, RENEW North Staffordshire and Newcastle Borough Council are working in partnership to make environmental improvements to a number of highly visible sites in the Knutton and Cross Heath AMI. A total of £500,000 was secured from RENEW North Staffordshire and Aspire Housing to be spent on environmental schemes over a two year period that commenced in 2004. All schemes were developed in close consultation with local residents.

YEAR 1 (2004/5)
Year 1 saw a range of small scale improvements delivered after consultation with local residents to the value of £150,000. Examples of completed projects included resurfacing, car parking provision, security railings and a lighting scheme. See a selection of before and after photographs below.

YEAR 2 (2005/6)

Year 2 of the project complemented the Year 1 works and the Masterplan with a total budget of £350,000. Local residents were given the opportunity to put forward their ideas, following a meeting at the NMP Community Forum in April 2005 and leaflets were sent to all households inviting residents to formally submit their proposals.

The Year 2 schemes were appraised by a dedicated Project Group in June 2005. The Group consisted of local residents, a Borough Councillor and delivery partners, who scored and prioritised the projects. Local residents living near to the proposed improvements were then consulted before the improvements were implemented. The successful projects are listed below along with a selection of before and after photographs.

YEAR 3 (2007/8)

A total of £200,000 will be spent by Aspire Housing and RENEW North Staffordshire on small scale environmental improvements in Knutton and Cross Heath during 2007/8.

Thirty-six proposals were received from residents following an application form being attached to Issue 5 of the New Beginnings Newsletter in March 2007, delivered to all households in the Area. These were appraised in June by a project group made up of residents and service providers. The criteria used to assess the proposals included visual impact, community safety and value for money.

Seventeen projects had been provisionally approved within the available budget to go out to wider consultation, although only 15 have been given the go-ahead. A number of other proposals put forward were to be included as part of the Public Realm Strategy for Knutton Village, which has separate funding allocated for 2007-8.
