KNUTTON AND CROSS HEATH
NEIGHBOURHOOD WARDENS
As part of the Knutton and Cross Heath Neighbourhood
Management Pathfinder (NMP) Project there are now Neighbourhood
Wardens patrolling in Knutton and Cross Heath.
Currently funded by the Knutton Cross Heath Neighbourhood
Management Pathfinder and managed by Newcastle Under Lyme Borough
Council, the Wardens will work with the community and with partner
organisations, such as the NMP Project, Police, Fire Service, Aspire
Housing, and other Council Departments to reduce fear of crime,
build better relationships with key service providers, and to bring
improvements in the quality of life for residents in the RENEW AMI
(Area Major Intervention) of Knutton and Cross Heath.
There are currently two Neighbourhood Wardens,
Mark Jones and Jo Morris, who patrol the area daily. They are featured
on the photograph below.

The Neighbourhood Wardens will attend
resident’s group meetings and local events, help organise
community litter picks and clean ups, visit the more vulnerable
residents of the area, and work with the schools and youth groups
to assist with citizenship, diversity, drug and environmental awareness.
They will also work with the Fire Safety Officer to undertake fire
safety checks, and the Police to improve the security of vulnerable
properties against burglary.
They can assist with access to services, report
incidents where residents have struggled to find solutions, provide
local information, and offer support to victims of crime.
The Wardens will report Environmental issues discovered
on their patrols, such as :
- Graffiti,
- Fly posting,
- Abandoned and untaxed vehicles,
- Fly tipping
- Dog fouling
- Poor street cleanliness,
and remove litter and fly tipping to help keep
the area clean, highlighting areas where service delivery needs
improving as they go.
Working closely with Youth Services, Turning Point
(drug support organisation), Police Community Support Officers and
Beat Officers, North Staffordshire Racial Equality Council, the
Council’s Anti Social Behaviour Officer and Aspire Housing
Staff, the wardens will endeavour to decrease the number of incidents
of Anti Social Behaviour and victimisation.
The wardens are not Enforcement Officers, are
not the Police, or Security Officers. They are there to improve
life for the Community and the environment and are led by community
needs.
